for K, J’s, and M.
the moment
it matters most –
when the heart is torn asunder
as anguish and agony do plunder
the already-scarred image of the One
seemingly
cast aside like jetsam and flotsam
bobbing in a sea of red –
the moment
it matters most
it’s most inexplicable
your toes long to catch
grains of sand in their crevices
your fingerprints reach to press
into the grooves of driftwood
smoothed by the cycles of moon and tide
all to feel something solid, seen
to erect borders and boundaries
so the emptying loss won’t seep all over
the conflicted cosmos
may paint the unseen skies
in polarities of black and white
but the battles on high
grasped in the mind
cannot sew together
the tears of heartbreak
here below
but this i know
along the shore
where the sea of red
ebbs and flows
a table is set
scan the horizon
we’ll find it
i’ll sit with you
we’ll wriggle our feet down deep
and run our hands across back and forth
and we’ll drink from the cup together
