Awaken to what’s around you.

“These are the Moments” combines poetry and illustration to invite readers to ponder the everyday, the intertwining of the divine in our human experience, and the small gifts that are available to us in any given present moment.

It is not meant to be consumed in large quantities in rapid fashion. But rather, slowly, contemplatively – in small bits over time. In this, we hope you might be shaped, formed, or changed in some “infinitesimal, but real” way (to borrow the words of Simone Weil) as you read and observe.

It started with a sweatshirt. I (Scott) was walking into hockey one Sunday night and one of the players from the opposing team was wearing a sweatshirt by an apparel company I knew well (Pocket Change). That player turned out to be Landon and he just happened to be incredibly gifted in an area where I needed help at work – graphic design. A friendship and many a creative project began.

Many years later, this is our first collaborative endeavour in the realm of personal passion projects. A simple exercise in sharing our gifts, and creativity for the enrichment of others. It’s a collaboration in which we hope others will join us over time.

About Scott Moore

Poet

I never thought I’d return back to my home city, Toronto. But here I am, with a deep sense of calling to see this city become a place of thriving, belonging and wellbeing for all – most often lived out through my work with Youth Unlimited. My wife, a country girl forever in her heart, still begrudgingly acknowledges our 5 daughters will say they’re from Toronto.

I’ve always loved writing and communicating, but discovered the gift of poetry only late in my 30s as a very personal, spiritual experience. I’m not sure I’m any good at writing it, but wanted to share it with others in the hopes that some will find joy, life, and awakening through it. And there’s no way I’d rather share my writing than having it be accompanied by the illustrative gifts of my dear friend, Landon.

About Landon Wideman

Illustrator

I grew up in the GTA and draw a lot of my creative inspiration from urban art and modern architecture. In February 2018 – I followed my heart to Muskoka and married the girl of my dreams. I now spend my days building brands for Renga, and spend my evenings enjoying life with my wife Katie and our pup Hoover. Someday, Katie and I will build the small home of our dreams, and hope to share its intentional design with family and friends.

I’ve always had it on my heart to find ways to glorify God and enrich others with my abilities. It was a call from Scott that seemed like a nudge and a reason to illustrate and affirm what I was feeling inside. It’s an honour to join Scott on this journey of offering joy and life through our creativity.
