anyone, is there ANYONE out there
scattered shards of an untarnished— image
twisted the trusting for perverse self-gain
once more #metoo proves —tragically— right

where can my hurt heart hang its tattered hat
your words were drops of morning dew — resting
gently on the tender sprout of my soul
anyone is there

but two selves split— the span of our being
like twin towers of a suspension bridge
can’t bear the load — so give up better past
when the cables snap  ¦  a new beginning
we find rest in the river of mercy
anyone is there

* “give up better past” is inspired by the words of Mona Scrivens at Today’s Teens Conference 2020, who said, “Forgiveness is giving up the hope of a better past.”
