chlorophyll still stretching to corners green
steady cycle of seasons truncated
cloaked in rain-like pitter-patter, death comes
by defoliation — laid bare for all
lifeblood retreats to roots hidden below
grounding in the strength of soil’s sustenance
a thousand tentacles awakening
