getting places

my body used to carry my soul
heart-opening 10k
with ocean salts in the air
breathing to the rhythmic cadence of my feet
bouncing off the radiant tarmac heat
leg-awakening final climb out of the don
with ten other little legs
skittering over the exposed
roots of giant maples
slow stroll hand-in-hand
around the gentle
curved lanes of hawk ridge
the day i knew one day you’d be mine

that which set me free
has become my boundary
so strength shifts
from sinews to savouring

now my soul carries my body

i don’t know which carries me further
nor do i know if that’s even the point
