beatific bedtime

i duck below top bunk
plop down between 
my two little loves
trying not to dislodge limbs
half-hidden under
squishmallows and sheets

daddy did you go somewhere stinky today

well i don’t know
i was in a coffee shop
for a while
want me to leave

no
we still want
to snuggle you
even when
you’re stinky

my heart smiles
to receive
the bountiful compassion
of such small souls

shifts my aroma afresh
